Friday marks the 65th anniversary of the end of the conflict on the Korean Peninsula.
Seven veterans from Windsor-Essex died in battle and many others were remembered Friday at a memorial service in Dieppe Gardens.
Several veteran groups from the area as well as guests from the United States attended, along with local dignitaries and representatives from the South Korean community.
Retired U.S. Army Colonel Sol Baltimore tells CTV News the ceremony demonstrates the bond between the U.S. and Canada.
"The city of Windsor can be a model for the rest of Canada and the United States on the depth and mindfulness of this ceremony," he says.
Officials with the Korea Veteran's Association Unit 29 say they are still trying to locate the families of two of the seven perished local veterans.
Their names were Robert J. Jones and Gunner Clifford Donald Weir.
While the fighting hasn't resumed, neither side has ever signed a peace treaty and a demilitarized zone still cuts between North and South Korea.
