A prominent Canadian union leader has died. Bob White was the founding president of the Canadian Auto Workers, now Unifor.
Former CAW National President Ken Lewenza says White was his personal mentor and hero.
"Bob White has such a legacy of mentoring, such a legacy of inclusiveness and a great legacy of success at the collective bargainning table," says Lewenza. "A rank and file member right from the get go. There was no difference between talking to Bob White and talking to one of our members in the union. He never saw himself as bigger than anyone else and as a human being there's probably no one better."
White was the president of the CAW until 1992.
He was 81 years old.
Bob White was a trailblazer in Canadian labour and a fighter for social justice. He will be deeply missed. https://t.co/7nETm2Vq2w #unifor pic.twitter.com/qsVTFRdch4
