The Director of Education for the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board has announced he'll retire this fall.
Paul Picard plans to end his 41-year career in education at the end of October.
Picard has been the board's director since August 2010.
He says he's leaving at a good time.
"It's like an athlete. Do you retire at the top of your game? Or do you retire when you're a little past your prime? It's time. The board has been through a very, very tumultuous period, it's in a very good place now."
Picard says time for some fresh ideas.
"I'm happy with how we've left things. You don't do this without a team and with any team, when you get a new leader, it invigorates everyone. We've re-tooled administratively and have a very strong senior administrative team in place. We've done all our school consolidations and closures. It's time to move on. Sometimes hard to tell yourself to do that, but it's the right thing to do."
Picard began his career as a teacher with the Catholic school board in 1976.
The board plans to begin the process to find a replacement in the very near future.
