The Federal Government has released details of a huge funding commitment to expand science for agriculture across the country.
Minister of Agriculture, Lawrence MacAulay was in Harrow on Friday to lay out the $70-million plan.
20 agriculture research and development centres across the country, including the Harrow Research Centre, will all benefit from this cash injection.
The plan is to hire more scientists to ensure farming is sustainable well into the future.
"If the farmers to this, then they see first hand not only they see but they're fully involved themselves in the process which I feel will help the information to come quicker to farmers right across the country — and of course this is so important to make sure we're on the cutting edge," says Minister MacAulay.
In making the campaign style announcement, MacAulay pointed out the previous Harper administration reduced the number of scientists and clamped down on information sharing.
"We don't muscle scientists, we make sure scientists can talk and discuss issues with each other," he says. "If you share information you're more likely to come up with better information, I think that's what scientists would tell you and that's what we want to see happen."
While we know there's money coming, we don't know how it will be divided up between the 20 research centre.
