Police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles after a several car thefts in the area.
The first in downtown Windsor where officers were called to a parking lot on McDougall St. near Hanna St. E. at around 8:45am Wednesday morning.
The owner of a 2008 Pontiac had left their car unlocked and running — a man hopped in the vehicle and took off.
The vehicle was spotted on Howard Ave. at around 10:30am and police then obtained surveillance video to positively identify the man.
Patrol officers located the car not far from where it was initially stolen just after 10pm Wednesday night.
An officer then saw a male quickly exit the vehicle and enter a business, upon entering the building police discovered the man had bolted out the back.
Officers caught up with the man 30-minutes later on Giles Blvd. E. and Marion Ave. and arrested him without incident.
A 46-year-old Windsor man is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property under $5,000, and failure to comply with recognizance.
Also on Wednesday in Chatham, OPP officers recovered two stolen vehicles within six hours of each other.
An investigation led officers to a male at a truck top along Highway 401 and found he was wanted on a warrant from elsewhere in Ontario.
The 38-year-old Windsor man was arrested at the scene and was found to been in possession of two reported stolen vehicles.
He will appear in Chatham court on April 5.
