One of the world's top exhibitions of automotive products opens to the global media Monday.
The North American International Auto Show media preview days begin at Cobo Centre with the announcement of car and truck of the year.
Show Executive Director Rod Alberts says they've been working on the show floor since November.
He says it takes a lot of effort for a relatively short time for the public to attend.
"We've been building this show for two months for a temporary display of two weeks, it's pretty amazing," says Alberts. "and the displays, there's probably $200-million worth of displays on the show floor plus another 40 or 50 product unveilings with brands from around the world including China. We've got a lot here for the public to come see and for the 5,000 press from around the world"
He says one element of the displays is really eye catching.
"There's a lot more LED screens these days," explains Alberts. "these LED screens are so vibrant and energetic, it's like being in Las Vegas."
He says they don't pick a theme for the show, but one has emerged for this show.
"This year we have a ton of SUVs coming in and trucks are a big deal," says Alberts. "You thought about electric cars and all that, and technology is very important but the consumer still wants those big trucks"
The doors open to the public starting Saturday, January 20, 2018 until Sunday, January 28, 2018.
