The Montreal Canadiens have named Shea Weber the 30th captain in franchise history.
Weber, acquired in 2016 from Nashville for P.K. Subban, served as captain of the Predators from 2010-2016.
He is the first Canadian-born player to wear the "C" for he Canadiens since Vincent Damphousse (1996 - 1999) and 25th overall.
The 33-year-old was limited to just 26 games last season due to a foot injury and has already been ruled out for the first two months of this season due to off-season knee surgery.
He had six goals and 16 points in those 26 games last season, posting a career-worst minus-8 rating. Weber has has eight years remaining on his contract at a $7.8 million cap hit.
Paul Byron and Brendan Gallagher will serve as the team's alternate captains this season.
