To help celebrate Canada's 150th year as a country the government has launched the ParticipACTION program.
As heard on AM800's The Afternoon News, by being active, Canadians can sign up to win prizes including a grand prize of a brand new Chevy car.
The goal of the program is to get Canadians to be more active while exploring all the country has to offer.
Director of Communications and Public Affairs at ParticipACTION Katherine Janesen says there are 150 activities for Canadians to complete this year.
"The play list is about trying new things and also maybe trying new things again maybe for the first time," says Janesen. "So if you haven't been camping since highschool or since you were in a scout troupe yourself, we are encouraging people to get out there and remind themselves about all the great ways to be active in this country."
Janesen says this program was designed by Canadians, for Canadians.
"So what we asked people to do is to vote on the 150 activities that they think makes us Canadian and then we are going to ask them to do them throughout the year, check them off to win prizes. Through this whole exercise we found that there are a lot of different ways that people get moving in this country," says Janesen.
