Unions, labour councils and activists continue to push for a comprehensive ban on asbestos.
The Canadian Labour Congress is hosting a conference in Windsor Monday afternoon to raise awareness about the danger posed by asbestos and the need for a ban.
"This is not a complicated issue," says Brian Hogan, president of the Windsor and District Labour Council. "It just needs to get to the top of the priority list and make it happen. This region sadly knows too well about the losses of many, many people in Windsor-Essex."
He says this nation-wide campaign is a no-brainer.
"It's not a difficult thing to happen. Trudeau says he's on side, so let's get those regulations in place and legislation to be tabled. Let's get this to be a safer country for all the citizens."
Hogan says surviving family members of victims of asbestos-related illness will share their personal stories.
The conference will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Unifor Local 200-444 Hall on Turner Road.
