A Canada 150 grant has come through for the Essex Region Conservation Authority.
ERCA is receiving up to $63,000 from the federal government. The money is designated for a specific project, but will allow ERCA to work on other needs.
"[The money is] in order to reconstruct and upgrade a new boardwalk and trail at Maidstone Conservation Area," says Irek Kusmierczyk, vice chair of the ERCA board.
Kusmierczyk says they can now redirect other funds for more projects.
"It looks like it will free up up to $43,000 or so for other prpjects and ERCA is always looking to improve its infrastructure and not just improve it, but also work with partners in the community to expand it," says Kusmierczyk.
Some of those other needs have already been identified.
"I'm thinking of the Cybersystems and also Chrysler Greenways that expanded the bicycle and walking trail throughout Windsor and Essex County, so ERCA is always looking to improve its infrastructure," says Kusmierczyk.
He adds the projects to receive the spillover funding will be determined by committee.
