An online campaign has been launched to protect a dog which attacked and killed another dog in downtown Windsor last month.
A GoFundMe page has been created by John Scenna of no fixed address.
On April 26th, Joe McParland was walking his 10-year-old greyhound Vici (vicky) on Ouellette and Ellis Street when another dog attacked her.
Vici died a few days later of a cardiac arrest.
The owner of the attacking dog, which appears to be a mixed pit bull breed, wrote on the gofundme page that ,"Wasn't Corvus fault, it was my fault I was exhausted from walking around for hours and fell asleep she doesn't deserve to die."
The Essex County Humane Society has the dog held in a 10-day quarantine.
Since then, McParland has filed a notice of claim against the city as the attacking dog had allegedly attacked another dog earlier in the day and the dog was returned to its owner by police.
Tamara Berthiaume claims her 12-year-old black lab “Shadow” was the victim of the first attack on the same day.
‘Shadow’was taken to the downtown veterinary clinic and continues to recover.
McParland claims the attacking animal is a mixed-breed pit bull, but that is still in question even though Scenna’s GoFundMe page lists the animal as a pit bull.
Current legislation bans pit bulls in Ontario, places restrictions on existing pit bulls, and toughens the penalties for the owners of any dog that poses a danger to the public.
Ontario's pit bull ban took effect on August 29, 2005.
