A great chance for kids to spend some time with nature in Point Pelee this summer.
The YMCA has partnered with Parks Canada to connect young people to nature at a revitalized Camp Henry.
Camp director Kelly Reynolds told AM800's Patty Handysides this will be the first time individual people can stay at Camp Henry on the Afternoon News.
The camp closed last year for renovations, and it's ready to go beginning July 16.
The camp, which opened in 1938, will be like new with all the work that's been done, and Reynolds says it will look like new for many who have never experienced the park before.
"As the YMCA this is the first time we've been running programs in the park. We've been working with the park for a long time to get this ready to go," she says. "This is the first time for Camp Henry that we've been able to have individual participants from the public register for programs."
Reynolds says they've also expanded the programs available this summer.
"We have programs for kids age five to 15 and we also have one week of family camp this summer," she says. "Predominantly our programs are for children who want that overnight camp experience but giving them an option that's a little bit closer to home."
Reynolds added, "there's only three camps in Canada that are located in national parks, which is really exciting, but we are now that third camp."
