Calgary city council has pulled the plug on a bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games.
Council voted Monday to stop work on the bid after last week's non-binding plebiscite, that showed 56% of those who went to the polls voted "no" to bidding for the Games.
Venues from the 1988 Winter Olympics that Calgary hosted were the foundation for another potential bid. But a cost-sharing agreement with the federal and provincial governments wasn't finalized until October 31st, which was less than two weeks before the vote.
Stockholm and a joint Italian bid from Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo are still in the running to host the 2026 Games.
