Caesars Windsor Cares is betting on the Windsor-Essex Therapeutic Riding Association.
It has donated $10,000 to the association to help the organization purchase specialized and adaptive riding equipment for people living with disabilities.
Association Executive Director Becky Mills says it's about safety for the riders. "A lot of times people's balance and their joints are stiff and their manual dexterity in their hands might be compromised so in order to assist someone safely on a horse, we need to make sure that they can ride in equipment that keeps them secure in the saddle."
"Riders need to be secure in the specialized saddle," says Mills. "Take a traditional piece of equipment and have it manufactured to suit a special need so often times you will have to have rubber added to reigns so that the grip is better or some sort of Velcro strapping that releases easily."
Mills adds this will add to its current compliment of equipment. "We can only provide service in one hour at the riding centre for a person in a wheelchair to use the saddle that is adapted with the handles and the straps and everything and so we needed to get more of that."
The association has 15 horses that services 200 clients a week.
