Caboto Club employees have voted 98% in favour of a new collective agreement Sunday night.
More than 100 employees gathered at Unifor's Union Hall on Somme Ave. to ratify a deal that was reached just an hour before a strike deadline last Tuesday night.
The three-year contract will see a wage increase, clarification on part-time and full-time classifications, additional holiday pay, and benefits for full-time workers, according to Unifor Local 240 President Jodi Nesbitt.
"The 98% showed us that our members absolutely had confidence in and they were very happy with the gains that we've made whether it be on the scheduling, the security of their hours, the wage improvements," she says.
More than two-hours were spent going over the deal Sunday night, the first contract for workers since they joined the union back in March.
"People needed to see that there is going to be more consistent practices that were going to be in writing and followed," says Nesbitt. "The bargaining committee actually did an excellent job at removing the emotion out of it by putting their heads to the business and the needs of the customers. That alone was able to get us beyond some hurdles."
Nesbitt says pay increases range from 50-cents to $1.50 an hour upfront depending on the workers classification, with an additional 1.5% increase for each year of the contract.
