The President of the Caboto Club is once again, defending the club's constitution.
Speaking on The Morning Drive, Club President Dennis Segatto is denying a published report that states "Only persons in good health, free from physical deformities and of good moral character shall be eligible for membership."
Segatto says this was part of a separate "mutual benefits constitution" to allow members to collect health benefits.
He says it was part of the society when the club was founded in 1925 but was changed in 2012.
"Unfortunately at that time it probably was legal to have that in there, there was other things in there that we have changed that were totally illegal and we made the change, plus it was never used. But again, it's been changed it was changed a long time a go," says Segatto.
Segatto also says when it comes to any changes of the constitution, it will be a process.
"Let us have the dialogue, we're not even allowed to have a dialogue, it has to be immediately?" says Segatto. "The Italian Women's Club, they added ladies auxiliary of Giovanni Caboto in 1983. We've worked side by side for 88 years."
The Caboto Club was previously under fire for its policy barring women from sitting as full voting members on the board. Premier Kathleen Wynne cancelled a planned event there earlier this month, blaming the policy for the move.
