"No vaping" signs will soon be as commonplace as "no smoking" signs in Ontario.
The signs must be put up as part of changes under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is working to help with the change by providing businesses a chance to get the new signs at no charge.
Health Promotion Specialist Ashley Kirby says this is the initial outreach to businesses.
"We've been talking to some of the businesses affected by changes so far, but we've been dealing with the municipalities first to get some of the signage orders out," she says. "Now we're looking to educate the business owners and make sure they're aware of the new regulations."
Kirby says the signs come in a variety of forms.
"If it's a glass door we have sticky front signs where they'd be sticking to the front of the glass and you'd be able to see them from the outside. Depending on where they're going they're very similar to the no smoking signs that you see throughout the area in any business and workplace," she says.
Kirby says the changes under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act cover a lot of different spaces.
"It would be any enclosed work space so this could include things like factories, office buildings bar and restaurants anything along those lines," she says. "Workplace vehicles would also be required to have these signs in them. They currently have no smoking signs but the new vaping signs would have to be included as well."
An online order form for the new signs can be found on the health unit's website.
