The hot humid weather and lack of rain have prompted the town of Tecumseh to issue a burn ban.
"At this point, the grass is so dry that we are afraid of things spreading," says Tecumseh Deputy Fire Chief Chad Mactier.
The ban applies to all areas of town and no permits will be issued .
Mactier says it doesn't take much in these dry conditions for things to get out of control.
"We do allow people to legally burn up to a certain size, but we have put a stop to the burn permits as well because even fires that people think they have under control can quickly get out of control," he says.
He also encourages people to think fire safety when extinguishing cigarettes or cigars and 'fireworks right now are not a good idea.'
Fines would include recovering the cost for Tecumseh Fire attending a call and could be higher than $500.
The ban is in place until further notice.
