The budget to expand a portion of Lakeshore's Atlas Tube Centre has been cut, almost in half.
Administration had been recommending the town spend up to $45,000 for a new storage room at the facility.
But after visiting the site and having some construction background, Ward 5 Councillor Kirk Walstedt figured, it could be built for a lot less.
He suggested a budget of $25,000 and council agreed.
Walstedt tells AM800 News $45,000 was too much.
"I went out to the site and I looked at it and the three walls are already there and I have some experience with construction and contractors and stuff and I did some talking around and I was convinced it could be done for almost half of that," says Walstedt.
Walstedt believes the project can be completed for $25,000.
"To me it seemed like a lot for a storage room that's why I went out to the site and looked at it and in my mind it was and council agreed with me," adds Walstedt.
Walstedt tells AM800 News he has some construction background and three walls are already there.
"I might be wrong but I don't think I am because just the materials and it is in a confined area, it is easily done," says Walstaedt. "I'm concerned about putting out large estimates like that and having the contractors focus on that."
Tge town had a temporary spot at the complex, but it wasn't in compliance with fire and building codes.
Sections of the facility first opened in 2014. The remainder of the complex opened in 2016.
