An Ottawa family is overwhelmed with support from the Windsor-Essex community after their service-dog "Sasha" was hit and killed by a vehicle last week.
Windsor police officers have come together to raise money to buy the family a new puppy.
The story hit home for many of them, hearing how the Golden Retriever was calming and therapeutic to the family's son who has autism.
Mother, Jackie Brown, says they were shocked after receiving the call from Constable Sean Patterson.
She says it'll be hard to replace Sasha, but her children's faces lit up when she showed them a photo of the new puppy named "Jake".
The family will travel to Windsor next weekend to pick up the puppy.
