A holiday tradition returns to Amherstburg this weekend.
The 2019 edition of the River Lights Winter Festival kicks off on Saturday.
Manager of Tourism and Culture Anne Rota says this year's event will include a number of new lighting displays.
"I think the town is just going to pop and the really great thing about Amherstburg, if you're able to work, all of the downtown shops will be open and just a really old fashion feeling fireworks along the waterfront, outdoor movies so just a great old fashion, old town feel," says Rota.
She says it's a great family event.
"Mostly it's about building those beautiful memories with the families and of course having our merchants, just happy for people to come out but people really really love Amherstburg River Lights, it's just a very sweet event, family event that makes memories," says Rota.
Rota says the excitement begins on Saturday at 5pm.
"With the Super Santa run and then of course our tree lighting ceremony, free hot chocolate, the gingerbread house opens up, so a lot of great things for families on Saturday night," says Rota.
She says the festival will once again include a Gingerbread Warming House.
The lights are located in Kings Navy Yard Park and Toddy Jones Park.
Rota says the event was scheduled to wrap up in early January but is expected to be pushed back to February.
