Not the welcome a local business was hoping for.
JG Drywall and Painting recently moved from Tecumseh Rd. in Windsor to 3750 Walker Road near Airport Road when it was broken into Monday night.
Controller Marissa Guerrero says the front window was smashed and the culprits stole everything that was worth something in the office.
She says the business was also collecting coats for local schools and area groups but luckily no jackets were taken.
"We had glass in all of the boxes of coats, so we had to go through those with a fine tooth comb and make sure everything was vacuumed up and taken care of and able to distribute."
She admits the break-in is disappointing but the coat drive will continue.
"It's very disheartening and I had people say are you still going to hold the coat distribution now, like what are you going to do now, and I never second guessed it for a second," says Guerrero. "This is something that we do every year to give back to our community."
Guerrero says the suspects threw the coats, between 300-400 coats, around the office and store.
A police report was filed and an investigation is underway.
As for the coat drive, she says coats will be collected until December 7th.
It's the third year for the coat drive.
The goal is to collect 1000 coats.
