Matthew Boyd fell one out short of a no-hitter in the Detroit Tigers' 12-0 rout of the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park. Tim Anderson broke up the bid with a two-out double in the top of the ninth inning.
The Tigers won the game, 12-0. Boyd struck out five and walked one as he improved to 6-and-10 with the complete-game shutout. Miami's Edinson Volquez remains the only pitcher in the majors to throw a no-hitter this season.
Jeimer Candelario hit a three-run homer, while Mikie Mahtook and Nick Castellanos added two-run blasts for the Tigers, who earned a split of the four-game series.
After splitting four games with Chicago, the Tigers continue their homestand tonight against Oakland. They play the A's in the first of a three-game series at Comerica Park. Buck Farmer will oppose Oakland's Jharel Cotton. The Tigers are 62-and-87. The A's are 66-and-83.
