Billie's Place in Sandwich Towne is being torn down after the building was deemed unsafe.
Demolition of the pub started at 8am on Wednesday.
The west-end staple had to be brought down after the City of Windsor issued orders for repairs and everyone needed to leave the building thought to have been built in the 1890's.
Former owner Billiejo Zacher says after 13 years of running the bar, it's hard to see it go.
"It's been a very weird day. The emotions are up and down. There's a lot of memories. A lot of weddings, funerals, birthdays and just everyday life in there," says Zacher.

She feels the bar held a special place in the community.
"I would like to think we had an impact, we definitely were a fixture," says Zacher. "We were home for a lot of people. We were family to a lot of people."
Zacher has moved over much of the bar's decor to the Dominion House down the street and was able to save a few bricks from the tear down today.
"Today when they were tearing down the one side of the building, we saw the elevator wheel, so that was kind of neat to see because I don't think that people believed me — my washrooms were elevator shafts. We actually saw the wheel, that would have been kind of neat to get that," says Zacher.
Seeing the first blow to the building wasn't easy.
"It was like somebody just stabbed me right in the heart," she says.
The building demolition won't affect the opening of the Old Sandwich Towne Farmer's Market set for May 6.
