Big Red Shoe Run returns in person for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event is put on by local McDonald's franchisee owner Jason Trussell, and proceeds directly benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).
This year's event will take place on Sunday, April 30 at Atlas Tube Centre in Lakeshore.
The event was started in 2018 by a group of McDonald's employees who were passionate about RMHC and the families it supports.
Trussell says there are a number of ways to get involved this year including the 5K run and kids dash.
"We also have the option for people to do a bit more of a virtual run where they ideally do 182 kilometres which is the distance from the house in London to the house in Windsor."
Trussell says since 2018 they've raised $203,000.
"We're hoping to break the $225,000 mark this year, so we're looking to raise at least $22,000 this year for the run," he said. "The pandemic definitely put a bit of a curve ball in to what everyone was able to do. With this year being our first return to in person we're really hoping to raise as much as possible."
Trussell adds that there are a number of ways to get involved.
"Go on RaceRoster and just search for Big Red Shoe Run and they can register there as an individual or as a team. And if you just want to come out and make a donation and see what's happening at the run, maybe test the waters and see if you want to participate in it next year. You can show up at the Big Red Shoe Run on April 30th, check it out and there'll be opportunities there to make donations as well."
Trussell says he's also looking ahead to McHappy day which takes place on May 10. He says 10% of all in person food and beverage sales will go be donated to RMHC and John McGivney Children's Centre.
