Restoration work is set to begin on the centuries old Belle Vue House.
Amherstburg Council has approved $258,000 for roof work on the historical building located on Dalhousie Street.
Michael Prue is with the Belle Vue Conservancy — the local group spearheading a million dollar fundraising effort for the project.
He says it's great to finally get the ball rolling.
"We're very excited about that going up, the scaffolding going up, and we think that the people in the town, who have been very generous, keep wondering, "What's happening with our money?" When the scaffolding goes up and the old roof comes off and the new one goes on then they're going to know that this is all very serious. So it's an exciting time."
Prue says the plan for the house has been making news across the county.
"It's says a lot for the town. We have had inquiries and news stories across Ontario and across Canada. So all of those naysayers, all of those people who said the town shouldn't do it, all of those people who don't think that old properties should be restored will see how it's going to work out."

He says the house is going to become an attraction when restoration work wraps up.
"It's going to really put Amherstburg on the map because people are going to say, "Here's a little town that recognizes its history and recognizes its architecture and wants to preserve it", and when they do this is going to be a huge selling point. People travel from all around the world."
Prue says the roof restoration will begin in the next week or two.
In September 2016, Amherstburg purchased the Belle Vue House which was listed as one of the top 10 endangered properties in Canada.
The home was built between 1816 and 1819.
