Belle River Man Wins Four Gold Medals

Jerry Marentette took part in the Mens Raw Master III division.

A Belle River man is coming home with four gold medals from the Powerlifting Commonwealth Games in St. John's, Newfoundland.

Jerry Marentette took part in the Men's Raw Master III division.

The 63-year-old won gold in the squat, bench press and deadlift along with the gold medal for the overall amount of weight lifted.

Marentette says he squatted 451-pounds and performed a deadlift of 540-pounds, both records at the Powerlifting Commonwealth Games.

He also says he set a new commonwealth record in the total weight category with 1241-pounds.

Marentette is a member of the Windsor-Essex County Sports Hall of Fame.
