A 33-year-old Belle River man is facing impaired driving charges following a collision in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police say officers were contacted around 9:10 p.m. Sunday by employees of a Richmond Street business about a suspected impaired driver who had left the area.

About 20 minutes later, police were called to a crash at the Queens Line roundabout and identified the driver as the same person reported by the business.

Police allege the man was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where investigators say he refused to provide breath samples.

The man is charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and failure or refusal to comply with a demand.

He was released with a future court date of Oct. 6.
