For more than 40-years Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain's been knocking on doors along the campaign trail, but he'll get to sit back and take it all in during the 2018 Municipal Election.
Bain announced he won't run for Warden of Essex-County after holding the position for nine-years. While Deputy Mayor Al Fazio has to hold off Ward 4 Councillor Tracey Bailey and newcomer Sean Gabriele for his seat, Bain is running unopposed.
He tells AM800 News he's looking forward to watching things unfold on Election Day.
"Kind of nice to know that the people have the confidence in you to allow you to run another term, my experience is there and I'm really looking forward to it," he says. "We'll have some new members on council looking at forming our local team and continuing the growth that we have in Lakeshore."
Eliminating county obligations and not having to campaign has allowed him to focus more on Lakeshore.
"We're working on bringing in a new hotel into our area and I've been able to meet with developers, those are things that I'd probably have to pass on to administration to do," says Bain. "I've been able to be involved in those day to day activities."
Bain is still involved in the election, helping make sure everyone can vote with the possibility of rotating postal strikes looming at 12am Monday.
"What we've done is set up drop offs, people need to get in there and town hall can't be the only place," he says. "We've used all our community centres and you can't drop them off at our ATC [Atlas Tube] Centre."
Bain was first elected as a councillor in Rochester Township in back in 1978. He's served as Lakeshore's mayor since 2006.
