A late night sitting of the House of Commons Friday saw legislation ordering Canada Post employees back to work pass third reading by a vote of 166 to 43.
The Senate will now sit Saturday and possibly Sunday to deal with Bill C-89, which would go into effect at noon on the day following royal assent which will likely be Monday or Tuesday.
Canada Post says it could take weeks to clear the massive backlogs of unsorted mail and packages caused by a month of rotating strikes by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.
The union is threatening to challenge the back to work legislation in court, calling the bill unconstitutional.
