Federal Labour Minister Patty Hajdu says the government will table legislation to end the Canada Post strike unless a resolution is reached "over the next few days."
Hajdu has appointed a special mediator to meet with both sides in an effort to get a deal.
The statement comes as pressure builds with the holiday season around the corner and the massive North American shopping phenomenon known as Black Friday and Cyber Monday just days away.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said he wants Canada Post and the union representing its workers to come together and resolve the dispute.
With hundreds of transport trailers sitting idle at its main Toronto sorting facility, Canada Post says mail and parcel delivery will be delayed into 2019 as a result of rotating strikes by its employees.
The Crown corporation says the worst delays will likey be in southern and southwestern Ontario.
