Former Maple Leafs winger Viktor Stalberg scored the tie-breaking, short-handed goal as the Carolina Hurricanes edged Toronto 2-1 for their fifth straight victory.
Jeff Skinner also scored and Cam Ward stopped 25 shots to help the Hurricanes send the Maple Leafs to just their third loss in 10 home games.
