An automotive director at Ontario's Centres of Excellence believes Windsor is poised to take advantage of the emerging automotive technology sector.
Raed Kadri, the Director of Automotive Technology and Mobility Innovation, was the guest speaker at the Annual General Meeting of the Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation.
Kadri says the technology segment is ripe for the picking and Ontario and, specifically Windsor, is positioned to go for it.
He believes it will create opportunities for the auto sector to expand and create jobs.
"We have the players, we got the companies, it is about trying to introduce the new ideas that come out of our post secondary institutions, trying to capture the new talent that is being generated from our post secondary institutions."
When it comes to technology, Kadri says this is outside of the autonomous vehicle scope.
"Windsor is traditionally known and continues to be a strong player in Ontario's global strength in the auto parts supply sector and continue to be and we just have to expand, and that will help to create jobs."
Despite talks are auto tariffs, Kadri says there is a 'global' demand for automotive technology and Ontario and Windsor should take advantage of it since we have a strong automotive sector, strong parts sector, technology sector and the talent.
