A new campaign is about to be launched to let Millennial's know that there are good jobs available at auto dealerships across the country.
The Canadian Auto Dealers Association is behind the recruitment push.
The CADA says auto dealers already employ 150,000 people across Canada but 3,200 positions need to be filled and that number is only expected to grow.
That includes positions in finance, sales, parts, I-T, service and management.
CADA spokesperson Catherine Fortin LeFaivre tells AM800 News says there's more than just sales and service jobs as cars become more technology focused.
"We're seeing that car dealerships wants to employ someone with a background in business, accounting, management, marketing. They're looking for technicians that have more of a technology background."
LeFaivre says that a recent survey found 68% of Millennial's did not consider working at an auto dealership.
"We want them to know that the auto industry in Canada is thriving. We've seen sales increases every year for the past five years. Revenues last year were $120-billion, so it's a great industry to be in."
She thinks the car industry needs to do a better job of explaining the opportunities that exist.
"We don't think people are aware that working in a car dealership is well paying. It's a long-term career, it's interesting work, it has to do with technology and creativity. Aspects in the past that may have not been associated with a car dealership.'
The findings of a national Abacus Data survey of 2,000 Millennials found 68% of those ages 18 to 37 said they had never considered working in an auto dealership, while a quarter said they had considered it.
