Steve Ott thinks it'll be a fairly seamless transition for him moving behind the bench for the St. Louis Blues.
As AM800 told you about yesterday, the former Spitfire — who continues to call the Windsor-area home in the off-season — is retiring from playing in the NHL to take an assistant coaching job under Blues head coach Mike Yeo.
Ott told AM800's The Morning Drive is excited to get started.
"I know a lot of the players — I think I've played with 19 of the 20 some odd players who are on the team," says Ott. "The ownership, the management, all the way down — it's a really classy organization. It'll be a really easy transition for me going back to some familiar faces."
Ott, who's 34, played in St. Louis for parts of three seasons.
"This Memorial Cup run has been really special for the city and it's great to see the Windsor Spitfires doing so well," says Ott. "Obviously Rocky Thompson — heading the horse there — has done a phenomenal job keeping these guys prepared. Going forward hopefully they can close this out on Sunday after the big alumni game on Saturday."
