The President of Unifor Local 444 hopes former CAW National President Ken Lewenza enter the ward 7 by-election race in Windsor.
Dave Cassidy says he and other union leaders have been meeting with Lewenza and are encouraging him to run.
He says he would bring a good mix to council.
"He can bring people together, be it business, be it labour, he's well rounded in all that," says Cassidy. "From being the former president of my local, to our national president of the CAW, I can't think of a better person to run in that ward."
Cassidy says he's been lobbying Lewenza for the past few weeks.
"He feels very good because Ken's all about his union, his union is first in any decision he makes and if he has the support of his union leadership, Ken will move forward with it," says Cassidy.
Cassidy and other union leaders are meeting with Lewenza on Monday.
The ward 7 by-election is set for April 27th.
As of now, there are four candidates seeking the seat, Greg Lemay, Barbara Holland, Igor Dzaic and Michael Malott.
