The union representing striking workers at Lakeshore's Atlas Tube Centre is urging the town to get back to the bargaining table.
A provincial mediator has been contacted, but it appears the town and the union are at an impasse.
"They're looking for us to come back lower than their final offer and we're not in a position to do that," says IBEW Local 636 Spokesperson, Christie Armstrong.
She says the town has refused to meet unless the union presents an offer with a lower wage than the town's final offer which was left on the table on February 28.
"This is the first collective agreement. So we're trying to bring them up to parity because they've been behind for so long," says Armstrong. "The part-time workers that have a collective agreement at the Town of Lakeshore have benefits, they have sick time, they have all of that and they're not willing to give these part-time members the same advantages and that's disheartening."
She says the town is not making negotiating easy, adding "the offer we already had a tentative agreement on, with just a counter-proposal on wages, they've taken off of the table and are asking us to come back with something lower. The town has also made it clear that they were not available to meet, that if we wanted to do any talks it would have to be through email."
Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain says council was expecting to receive an offer from the union, but he says it didn't happen.
"Council was updated Tuesday night at our council meeting that they were going to bring us an offer back as we had asked them and then just before our council meeting, we were informed that there was no offer coming to us," says Bain.
He would not say what the town is offering saying that should be left at the negotiating table but goes on to say that bargaining didn't start on a good note as the union's initial proposal called for a 40% wage increase.
The 21 part-time facility attendants hit the picket lines on March 5 when talks broke down.
Since the strike began, the Atlas Tube Centre has remained opened with all services continuing as scheduled.
There is no word when bargaining might resume
