Female leaders of tomorrow received some financial help at the 18th annual Athena Scholarship Luncheon.
AM800's Patty Handysides emceed the event at the Giovani Caboto Club Friday.
All three women received a $5,000 scholarship. Future lawyer Lacy Cardy says that money will go a long way.
"At first I didn't think I could afford to go to law school," says Cardy. "This scholarship has gone a long was for sure."
Cessidia DeBiasio plans on focusing on corporate-social-responsibility as a way of giving back.
"I grew up in an immigrant family and a huge value they tried to instill in us is give back, especially when you've been given so much," says DeBiasio. "So just the hard work and determination of giving back to my community is a huge factor."
Victoria Chlumecky says she challenged herself to be better and it paid off.
"I'm looking forward to becoming a police officer one day so I got more involved in the community and strove to be a better version of myself," Chlumecky, says.
The scholarships are awarded to those who best represent the "Athena philosophy" by encouraging people around them, being exceptional role models, and leading by example.
