Local wineries are keeping a close eye on the cold temperatures this weekend.
Tom O'Brien is founder of Cooper's Hawk Winery in Harrow.
He says growers are not worried about the snow, but are concerned with the frigid temperatures.
Speaking on the Afternoon News, O'Brien says if the temperature dips to minus 20, it will kill 100% of the seed.
"If we do hit minus 20 in the growing country and they're actually forecasting a little lower out there because of the influence of the lake, we will take a little bit damage," says O'Brien.
He says three crops will be impacted the most by the cold weather.
"Cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah are all quite a bit on the tender side," says O'Brien.
O'Brien says he has talked to other wineries and they will continue to share temperatures with one another.
"We can have within a kilometre apart probably a temperature differential of three degrees Celsius and that's a lot," says O'Brien. "We talk with each other, we know because the wind, the cold usually comes from the northwest so we kind of track it outside the system."
The temperature is expected to drop to minus 18 overnight Sunday, feeling more like minus 28 with the wind chill.
