LaSalle Mayor Ken Antaya will not seek re-election in October's municipal election.
Antaya made the announcement following Tuesday night's council meeting.
He's been mayor for two terms and says it's time to step aside and retire from politics.
"I've been here eight years and I'm announcing early so I can step aside and let the members of council make decisions on where they want to go," says Antaya. "I just didn't want to get in the way knowing that I made up my mind that I wasn't going to run for a third term."

Antaya says it's been a pleasure serving the town for the past eight years.
"It's a privilege serving the community," says Antaya. "So I'm retiring from politics and I'm doing it with my head held high. I think we left a good legacy behind and we have nothing to be ashamed of."
Antaya says there are a number of accomplishments he and council achieved during his two terms including the new civic centre, improved infrastructure, town finances and the start of LaSalle Transit.
He plans to play more golf and spend more time with his grandchildren during his retirement.
In 2010, Antaya became mayor after beating Gary Baxter.
In 2014, he was re-elected after defeating Adrien Bezaire.
