On the heels of a positive Building Report for the town of Essex, another development has been approved.
Council voted Monday night in favour of a cluster of semi-detached homes, which will be built on a plot of land between County Rd. 13 and South Pollard Dr. in Ward 3.
Councillor Sherry Bondy calls it something her ward desperately needs, and will be getting more of with the two more projects getting ready to begin.
According to the Building Report, the average sale price of homes in Wards 3 and 4 jumped from $262,000 to $400,000 in 2019.
The reason, Ward 3 has larger plots of land and fewer options when it comes to smaller dwellings.
Bondy is excited to see more homes for retirees and small families.
"That's what people in our municipality are looking for. People want smaller yards, people want bigger garages, they want that townhouse or semi-detached home lifestyle now," she says.
Bondy says the new subdivision will fill a need in Ward 3.
"Looking for those retirement homes, looking for those starter homes ... they're still going to be a bit pricey because they're brand new, but those homes will open up other homes in our community," she says.
Developers tell Bondy they hope to have shovels in the ground on the project soon.
