One of the region’s oldest country fairs is back this weekend.
The Harrow Fair will kick off Thursday afternoon and will run until Sunday evening.
The fair will see a wide range of activities, contests, competitions for adults and children, among much more.
The fair will offer live entertainment, livestock shows, the midway, lawn tractor races, a parade on Saturday morning, outhouse races and more.
Emma Denotter, Director on the Harrow Fair Board, says a fan favourite event will return.
“We have our pie auction which is always a big hit every year, and we’re looking forward to that Thursday evening. 100 per cent of the proceeds go to the John McGivney Children’s Centre, so that is always a great fundraiser.”
Last year’s auction saw a record-breaking $118,000 raised.
She says it’s an event about community and fun.
“It’s also the tradition. There’s the bossy bingo, there’s the lawn mower races, the parade, and just all the kids having a lot of fun. It’s definitely an end of summer tradition that people enjoy coming to.”
Denotter says the event wouldn’t be possible without volunteers.
“We have the boy scouts cleaning all of the garbage around the fair, we have the Knights of Columbus helping work our gates. We have restaurants up town that they definitely see an increase in patrons the weekend of the fair.”
The Harrow Fair first kicked off in 1854 and has been running every year since.
