Environment Canada has ended an extreme cold warning for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.
The weather service is forecasting bitterly cold conditions across the region on Monday with a high of -11C. With the wind chill it will feel like -30C in the morning and -18C in the afternoon. There is also a risk of frostbite.
Meteorologist Kelly Hobelman says it's cold but it's not record-setting cold.
"Overnight we saw temperatures dip as low as -19.1C in Windsor and, along with that, we saw wind chills of -30C," says Hobelman. "So the record that we have for January 21 in Windsor is -27.2C and that was set back in 1984."
The cold will continue Monday evening and overnight with a low of -21C and a wind chill of -28C but she says it won't last long.
"We do have a warm-up on the horizon. On Tuesday we will have a high near -1C which is the normal for this time of year. For the next couple of days we will stay near normal and we may even see some rain showers on Wednesday," says Hobelman.
The normal temperature for this time of year is around a high of -1C with a low of -8C.
