Essex Power has donated 10,000.

A big boost for an Amherstburg youth group.

The 'Empowerment Girls Group' is getting $10,000 courtesy of Essex Powerlines and its Youth in Community Fund.

The group brings girls, ages 10 to 14, together once a week for peer mentoring.

Facilitator Mackenzie Robson says they cover a wide range of topics.

"We do a lot of activities to help benefit the girls through bullying problems and relationship issues and kind of built their self esteem. We talk a lot about media and how to be a positive role model to their friends, their family and things like that," says Robson.

Essex Power gives $10,000 to Amherstburg, LaSalle, Leamington and Tecumseh every year for youth outreach.

To date, Essex Power has donated $160,000.
