Now that the Essex County library strike is over, Amherstburg wants its share of the money that was saved.
Essex County library workers had been on strike for 230 days but both sides have ratified a deal and libraries are set to re-open later this week.
But Amherstburg Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says due to the length of the strike, the town wants some money back.
"I think Amherstburg has been very clear that the county should not keep that money," says DiCarlo."That should be up to each individual municipality on how it should be used."
"I have heard from a lot of residents who said that money was given in good faith for library services which they did not receive."
Earlier this month, Essex County Council decided to put the $790,000 in surplus money into reserves on a temporary basis during the strike.
County Treasurer Rob Maisonville expects the issue will be revisited by Essex County Council now that the strike is over.
