Amherstburg Town Council has approved its 2017 budget.
Councillors voted in favour of passing the budget, which sees a 1.87 per cent increase in taxes for residents.
Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says he is happy with the budget overall.
He says infrastructure projects shaped this year's budget.
"There is a huge increase in infrastructure spending, but I believe that it is in response to residents who said it is time to start investing in our infrastructure, says DiCarlo. "We will be doing a lot of work on repairing our infrastructure."
DiCarlo says council did all they could to keep a tax increase as low as possible.
"This council has been very diligent in trying to maintain as fair a tax rate as we can," says DiCarlo. "We continue to struggle with finding that balance of catching up and still investing in the town as we go."
He says the tax rate could have been a lot higher.
"Other municipalities are doing the same thing and we ended up with a 1.87 per cent tax rate," says DiCarlo. "I think that is pretty good in comparison."
The town will be focusing on repairing and maintaining its infrastructure this year with nearly $5,674,000 going towards road projects.
The town's gross operating budget will total over $25,774,000.
