An Amherstburg councillor wants to make sure the cancellation of the Canada Day fireworks was just a one year thing.
The town had to cancel the fireworks July 1 this year because high water levels had submerged the area on Boblo Island where the fireworks are normally set off — and there wasn't a plan B.
Councillor Patricia Simone has asked the town's parks department to make sure there are other options, in case the water levels are unchanged in 2020.
"They are going to be looking at barges, potentially it will come forward in another report to council and just to make sure that there is a barge set aside, if needed for next year's fireworks."
She says the town looked at other venues this year, but it couldn't be done.
"Administration did look at every possible option that was available to them but this year, it wasn't able to happen so we are hoping next year, that those plans will be place and it could take place next year."
Simone says she received several calls from residents complaining there weren't any fireworks to celebrate Canada Day this year.
A report will be coming to town council in the future on other possible options.
