No one was hurt and nothing was damaged, but Thursday's earthquake did provide Amherstburg with an opportunity to test its Emergency Communications System.
Residents who signed up received a text, phone call or email. Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says the town has been working on the plan for a couple of years.
"Without calling a full blown emergency, we were able to test certain aspects of our plan including our emergency communications, which we just activated...there were a couple thousand residents who confirmed receipt," he says. "The message did include there may be some aftershocks that can come with earthquakes and the town's infrastructure is intact."
Residents who want to sign up can go to the town's website.
