It is not the answer the Essex County ATV Club was looking for.
Amherstburg council has denied permission for all terrain vehicles to operate on rural municipal roads as part of an expanded trail network with concerns over safety and liability, the main reasons.
Administration was then asked to come back with a report on a possible trial run, which was approved.
Councillor Don McArther supported the trial period but doesn't think the extra work by administration is necessary.
"It's kind of convoluted," he says. "At the end of the day it might end up allowing off-road vehicles and ATV's on town roads, but I didn't think we need to wait. I thought we had all the elements in place tonight to endorse a trial run,"
As of now, ATV riders are allowed on county roads within Amherstburg to cross from one property to another to access off-road trails, and they are also allowed to ride on private land for agricultural purposes.
Lakeshore and Pelee Island are the only two municipalities to allow ATV's on rural roads in the region.
No timeline has been set on when the issue will return to Amherstburg council.
