A major reconstruction of Creek Rd. in Amherstburg is set to get underway.
Council has approved $1.5-million for the work which spans from Meloche Rd to County Rd 20.
Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says the original plan is being scaled back and will not include bike lanes as they would have brought the project $550,000 over budget.
"Costs are just escalating exponentially. Unfortunately, that takes certain aspects out of the projects that a few years ago we might have been able to include" he says. "It's frustrating for everybody, especially the cyclists using the roads. Unfortunately, when it comes down to it it's just a question of costs."

DiCarlo says council didn't want to take away from any other projects.
We are doing this road, but trying to spend that kind of money to add pathways means, in this case, another half million dollars that won't be spent on another road. So it's just a question of trying to get done as much as we can in a short period of time within the most reasonable budget we can come up with."
Construction is expected to being in September and wrap up by the end of November.
